間違って使いやすい英単語・英会話表現「body check」
拳銃やナイフ、麻薬などを所持していないかどうかチェックするために、空港の警備員や警官が行う身体検査のことを「ボディチェック」と言いますが、英語では“body search”と言います。通常、手や金属探知機（金属に反応して音が鳴るハンディー型の器械）を使って行います。“body check”は、アイスホッケーなどで相手のプレイヤーを妨害するための体当たりのことになるので、ご注意を。
ちなみに、警備員のことを「ガードマン」と言いますが、これも和製英語。英語では“security guard”、“security officer”と言います。
body search使い方の例
- I had to have a body search at the airport. It was so embarrassing!
空港で身体検査を受けなきゃいけなくてさ。すごく恥ずかしかったよ！ - In movies, whenever the police make an arrest, they do a body search and then read the person their rights.
映画では、警察官が逮捕する時には必ず身体検査を行い、容疑者が持つ権利が読み上げられる。 - While giving the man a body search, they found three grams of cocaine in his shoe.
その男に身体検査を行ったところ、靴の中にコカイン3gを発見した。
security guard／security officer使い方の例
- When I was a collage student, I was working as a part-time security guard in the hospital nearby.
大学生の頃、近くの病院で警備員のアルバイトをしていた。 - One of the security guards always sat at the entrance of the building.
そのビルの入口にはいつも警備員の1人が座っていた。 - An airport security officer rooted through my carry-on suitcase, and inside of the suitcase became a mess.
空港の警備員が手荷物のスーツケースを引っ掻き回したので、中がぐちゃぐちゃになった。
